Wichita Police respond to call of explosive device
The Wichita Police Department Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team was called to a home near Lincoln and Grove on the report of an explosive device.
It happened shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday in the 800 block of South Green.
Sgt. Dan Oblinger said a man contacted 911 to report what appeared to be an explosive in his back yard. Officers arrived on scene and began clearing nearby homes.
The disposal team arrived a short time later to investigate. The device was eventually removed from the area.
Oblinger said the device was actually harmless, but had been made to look like an explosive. Residents were allowed to return to their homes around 9 p.m.
