Standoff in Plainview
Wichita Police responded to a reported hostage situation late Sunday night. It happened in the 3100 block of S. Rutan in Plainview.
Sgt. Dan Oblinger said someone called 911 to report that someone inside of a duplex was armed with a shotgun and had taken several people hostage. When police arrived, most of the people had evacuated from inside of the duplex.
Nearby residents were evacuated, and a perimeter was set up. Police tried to make contact inside of the home with a woman believed to be still inside.
Oblinger said a call was made to the SWAT team, but officers were able to make contact with the woman before they arrived.
"She was placed into custody and taken into the hospital for observation due to her level of intoxication," said Oblinger.
Police are interviewing the woman and a man who may also be a suspect in the case.
