High speed chase ends in east Wichita
Police were involved in a high speed chase with two suspects that began in south Wichita and ended in an eastside neighborhood.
The chase began around 3:30 p.m. Monday in the 2600 block of south Vassar Court. It went north to Douglas and Grove, then went east. The chase ended at Windsor and Willowbrook, near Kellogg and Woodlawn.
Officers took an assault rifle and a sawed-off shotgun out of the vehicle. The driver was taken to a hospital by ambulance. He had bruises to his head.
Wichita Police Captain Hassan Ramzah said someone on Vassar Court saw two men loading the high-powered weapons, apparently in preparation for a residential robbery. The witness called 911, and that led officers to the scene where one man was arrested. Officers began chasing the second man, who was in a Hyundai Sonata.
The car went over some stop sticks that were placed by officers during the chase. Ramzah said there were two non-injuries crashes during the chase, one involving a police patrol car.
"In addition to the current charges, (the man in the car) is wanted on multiple warrants," said Ramzah. "The detectives from the gang unit are here to conduct a follow-up investigation."
