City council to consider tougher Old Town ordinances
The Wichita City Council will have a special meeting Tuesday to look at stronger regulations for the Old Town entertainment district. Council members called the meeting in response to recent incidents of shootings and violence in Old Town.
The council will consider an ordinance to prohibit loitering in Old Town between midnight and 6 a.m. Another proposed change deals with how drinking establishments are classified with regard to food sales. That's intended to keep 18, 19 and 20-year-old patrons out of establishments that mainly serve alcohol.
Another proposal calls for all sidewalk vendors to close down at midnight. That restriction would be imposed citywide.
