Butler Community College president to retire
After serving for 17 years as president of Butler Community College, Jackie Vietti announced she is retiring, effective Dec. 31.
Vietti made the announcement to almost 500 faculty and staff members during an inservice Tuesday. Also on Tuesday, the college's board of trustees tabbed Karla Fisher, Vice President of Academics, to succeed Vietti on an interim basis while a national search is conducted to find Vietti's replacement.
In her time at Butler, Vietti oversaw several major projects, including the building of a $12 million multi-purpose stadium in El Dorado, a new student union on the Andover campus, the opening of a new Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts in southeast Wichita and a 192-bed housing complex in El Dorado.
"She will be remembered every time we look around and see all that has been accomplished during her time here. I don't know if there's another college administrator out there like her, but we're going to make every effort to find him or her," said Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Greg Joyce.
"I have long said that you never really leave Butler. Certainly that is true in my case, as I always will bleed purple and remain committed to helping the college and the broader community in any way I can," Vietti said.
