A storm system approaching from the west coast will bring increasing storm chances to the area for the end of the week.

The first chance for storms will arrive Thursday night over southern Kansas, but those storms are not likely to be severe. Pockets of heavy rainfall will be possible with the stronger storms.

On Friday, a warm front will be lifting back to the north across southern Kansas, and that will lead to scattered storms over the area Friday morning and afternoon. The highest likelihood for severe storms will be over central and western Kansas, with hail and brief gusty winds being the primary threat. Storms will have a tendency to move northeast throughout the day.

Storms will continue to be possible Friday night and Saturday. The highest chance for severe storms on Saturday will be along and east of I-135 with hail and wind being the primary risk. An isolated tornado is also possible, but an outbreak of tornadoes does not seem likely. Storms are expected in Wichita Saturday morning and early afternoon, but should be ending by mid afternoon as drier air pushes through the area.
