Driver strikes gas pump at QuikTrip, causes fire
An employee of the QuikTrip store at Harry and Seneca in Wichita said he watched as a woman in a red SUV struck a gas pump, got out briefly then left the scene.
The accident started the gas pump on fire at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday.
Officers spoke with a witness who knows the woman who is suspected of hitting the pump.
"We were able to track down that individual and take that individual in custody for hit and run," said Wichita Police Sgt. Ken Kimble.
The pump was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters and police arrived. They blocked traffic in all directions around the store for about 45 minutes. The fire did not spread to other pumps, the store or the underground tanks. No one was hurt.
