Shooting leads to chase in east Wichita
Wichita Police took a man into custody who was suspected of firing a gun at a vehicle early Sunday morning.
It began around 2 a.m. when someone called 911 to report they were following a gray Cadillac whose driver had fired a gun at them.
The caller was following the car north on I-135, but stopped and left the area. Wichita police officers and the helicopter found the suspect's vehicle near 1st Street and Hydraulic, and a chase began that eventually brought police to the College Hill area.
The suspect fled on foot after running to the curb on Kellogg Drive in between Clifton and Vassar. He was taken into custody a short distance away.
Sgt. Dan Oblinger said shell casings and other evidence was recovered that verified a gun had been fired.
"The Air Section was crucial in the capture," said Oblinger.
