There's more information on the fatal accident in southeast Wichita.

Police said the 18-year-old driver of a two-door hatchback was traveling at a high rate of speed west bound on Pawnee near the Kansas Turnpike overpass. He lost control on the curves and was struck by an eastbound Dakota pickup truck.

Wesley Stewart of Wichita was dead at the scene. Police said he was not racing anyone in a vehicle at the time of the crash, just after 5 p.m. Thursday.

"At this point, there is no indication the driver was racing any other vehicles - he was just driving at a high rate of speed," Wichita Police Lt. Joe Schroeder said.
