A Wichita Police sergeant was struck by his own car in a traffic accident in Old Town.

Officers were conducting traffic control about 1:45 a.m. Friday near 1st and Rock Island, blocking eastbound traffic.

"As the officer was getting out of his vehicle, the car that collided with it hit him and knocked him several feet back, causing the officer to his head on the pavement," Lt. Doug Nolte said.

The sergeant was treated and released at the hospital for minor bruises and scrapes, while the 21-year-old driver of the other car was arrested for DUI and other traffic-related charges. The police car was taken out of service after being broadsided.
