The father of five children is behind bars after leading police on a high speed chase - with his children inside an SUV.

It began when officers spotted a black Chevy Tahoe with dark tinted windows speeding in the 1100 block of West 2nd Street about 7:35 p.m. Thursday.

"The driver of the Tahoe made several turns and ran several stop signs in an attempt to elude the officers," Lt. Doug Nolte said.

The driver finally pulled over in the 1100 block of West Douglas, where officers heard the children, ages 3-10, screaming.

"There turned out to be five children in the car, and all were unrestrained," Nolte said.
