Fatal crash in Western Kansas
A car-semi accident in western Kansas Sunday afternoon left one man dead.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said it happened just after 4 p.m. on US-54 milepost 83.1, or two miles east of Kingsdown in Ford County.
A 2010 Toyota Tundra driven by 61-year-old Douglas Close was southbound on Ford County Road 127, while a semi was eastbound on US-54. The car failed to yield the right of way, and was struck by the semi.
Close died from his injuries at Western Plains Regional Hospital. He was not wearing a seat belt. The semi driver, 52-year-old Charles Zimmerman, Jr. of Wichita, was not hurt.
Troopers said the car Close was driving came to rest in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 54. The semi came to rest in the south ditch. Zimmerman was buckled up.
