Retired Director of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Larry Welch, is the scheduled guest speaker at the Wichita Crime Commission's 59th Annual Awards Banquet.

"Our guests at the banquet are in for a treat," said Crime Commission Executive Director, Gordon      Bassham. "Director Welch is not only an entertaining speaker, but his address that night will be full of anecdotes about some of the KBI's more intriguing cases taken from his new book."

Welch's book, "Beyond Cold Blood: The KBI from Ma Barker to BTK," was released last month.

"Director Welch's book lays out important details about key cases investigated by the KBI throughout history," said Bassham.

Welch is a native of St. John, Kan. He began his law enforcement career in 1961 with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was appointed the 10th director of the KBI in 1994 and served in that post until his retirement from the agency in 2007.

The banquet will take place beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25 at the Doubletree by Hilton Wichita Airport Hotel. Reservations are required for the event.
