Two men sentenced in Craigslist burglary scheme
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Wichita announced two men have been sentenced for selling items taken in burglaries online. Jordan Smith, 23, was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison, while his co-defendant, 21-year-old Thomas Griffin, Jr. was sentenced to five years in prison.
Smith pleaded guilty to wire fraud. Griffin pleaded guilty to one count aiding and abetting wire fraud. In his plea, Smith admitted to burglarizing 36 people and stealing $115,964 in personal property that he then listed on the website Craiglist.
Griffin admitted to allowing Smith to use his telephone number as a point of contact for interested buyers. Griffin was aware the property was stolen.
The burglaries took place between 2009 and 2011. The pair were sentenced Monday.
