Advance voting begins in Sedgwick County
Advance voting has started at the Sedgwick County election office for the Nov. 6 general election. The office is open from 8 to 5 weekdays, and it will have in-person advance voting through Nov. 2.
Election commissioner Tabitha Lehman says there will be 15 satellite locations that will open Tuesday. They will be open from noon to 7 p.m. except for Wednesday, Oct. 31, when they will close at 5 p.m. The satellite locations will also be open from 9 to 4 on Saturday, Nov. 3.
Lehman said they will be the same locations that were open for the August primary. They include the Bel Aire City Building, the Center for Health and Wellness and the Haysville Activity Center. A complete list can be found on the county's web site at www.sedgwickcounty.org.
Lehman said over 71,000 mail ballots have been sent out, and she expects the final number to top the 73,000 that were mailed out for the 2008 election. She said Oct. 31st is the last day to request an application for a mail ballot. November 2 will be the last day for the election office to mail out the ballots.
The ballots have to be returned to the election office by 7 p.m. on election day. Lehman is urging voters to follow the instructions on the mail ballots and make sure they sign the envelope before returning it, otherwise the ballot cannot be counted.
Lehman is expecting a turnout of 70 percent for the general election.
