The city of Wichita and Sedgwick County have announced their choice to lead a newly-created department.

The city and county have been working over the past few months to merge their central inspection and code enforcement departments to create the Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department (MABCD). Thomas Stolz, who is currently a deputy police chief in Wichita, will begin work as the department's director on Nov. 13.

Sedgwick County Manager Bill Buchanan said in a press release that the city and county talked with a number of business and organizational leaders in the process of finding a director for the MABCD. Buchanan said everyone was impressed with the problem-solving approach that Stolz will bring to the table from his years in law enforcement.
