Crime Stoppers of Wichita/Sedgwick County is teaming up with the Wichita Police Department to increase its reward for tips on cold case homicides.

“The Crime Stoppers Advisory Committee feels it is important to take this step as a way to encourage someone with information about these unsolved crimes to come forward and help close them,” said Gordon Bassham, executive director of Crime Stoppers of Wichita/Sedgwick County.

Each week between Friday, Oct. 26 and Jan. 1, 2013, the Wichita Police Department and Crime Stoppers will focus on a series of unsolved homicides and encourage citizens to provide information about them anonymously to Crime Stoppers.  Anyone who provides a tip on any of these crimes that leads to an arrest will receive $2,000, twice the normal Crime Stoppers reward on such cases.

The first cold-case homicide in this project is that of Wichita 61-year-old banker Tim McGuigan who was murdered in his home in 2011.

“We encourage anyone with information about this or any felony crime to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously, either by phone at 316-267-2111, by text message by sending their tip to CRIMES (274637) and beginning their text message with TIP217, or on the web at www.wsccs.com,” said Bassham.
