One dead, 6 hurt in chain reaction crash on Kellogg
Wichita Police say a man is dead and a woman in critical condition following a crash early Saturday morning on Kellogg. Shortly after midnight, 911 starting receiving calls of an accident on Kellogg in the eastbound lanes at the Central Business District.
Sgt. Roger Runft says a pickup truck and a car were traveling east when one of the vehicles changed lanes, causing the two to collide. The car was pushed sideways and came to sudden stop.
"...then a continuing eastbound car struck them broadside into the driver's door." According to Sgt. Runft, who said the car was then pushed against the inside retaining wall of Kellogg.
"Unfortunately, that car was occupied by a 25 year-old male driver and a 20 year-old female and the 25 year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene." said Runft.
The woman was taken by EMS to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis where she is in critical condition. Runft said that accident caused other vehicles to brake hard, which lead to a series of chain reaction accidents.
As many as five other people had minor injuries from those accidents. The Wichita Police Department's Critical Accident Team was called out to the scene to help investigators reconstruct the accident.
The names of the man who was killed and his passenger have not been released.
