Fire victim's death ruled accidental
A death of a woman whose body was found in a burned house near Derby Sept. 10 was an accident, according to a report by the Regional Forensic Science Center in Wichita.
Kathy O'Brien, 53, died in the blaze in the two-story home near 87th Street South and Greenwich Road. The Wichita Eagle reports the cause of O'Brien's death was smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. Foul play is not suspected.
A passerby reported the fire at 1:46 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they immediately determined it would be too dangerous to enter the home. The home was a total loss, with a damage estimate of $300-thousand.
