County personnel team up with OxyChem for worst-case exercises
Officials with Sedgwick County Emergency Management and Occidental Chemical Corporation (OxyChem) will team-up to hold several emergency drills Thursday morning.
The drills will begin at 8 a.m. and last through the early afternoon hours.
The exercises are intended to help agencies and plant personnel coordinate responses to incidents. Several scenarios will be drilled, including a "shelter-in-place" scenario which involves Oatville Elementary and the Haysville School District.
OxyChem will also test their near-neighbor phone system. In the call, residents will be notified that the call is a part of the drill.
Agencies involved in the training exercise include Sedgwick County Emergency Management, Wichita and Sedgwick County HAZMAT teams, Wichita and Sedgwick County fire and EMS departments, as well as 911 Communications.
