Phony cops steal 2 machines from west Wichita business
Wichita police are looking for two men who took a couple of arcade machines from a west side convenience store while posing as police officers.
It happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday at a Stop N Shop store in the 1800 block of West 13th.
Lieutenant Doug Nolte said a man walked into the store and identified himself as a police officer in plain clothes. The man displayed a badge that he was wearing around his neck. The man also presented paperwork for the seizure of two arcade machines. Another man walked into the store and began preparing the machines to be removed.
Nolte said the 22-year-old clerk stated he was going to call 911, but the man told him not to do that. The clerk called 911, but the two men had time to load the machines onto a pickup and get away. The truck was described as silver with some damage on the front left corner.
The man with the badge was described as a white male around 30 years old, 5-feet-10-inches tall and 190 pounds. He had brown hair and was wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. The other man was described as a white male wearing a brown plaid shirt and blue jeans.
Nolte said the men were not Wichita police officers and it's not believed they were valid officers from any agency. It's not known why the men were targeting the arcade machines for the robbery.
