Police identify victim of fatal north Wichita accident
Police have identified the man who was struck and killed by two vehicles at a north Wichita intersection. Michael Spires, 49, of Wichita was killed Friday evening at 17th and Piatt.
Wichita Police Lt. Scott Heimerman said Spires was trying to cross 17th Street when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle. The collision tossed him into the westbound lane, where he was hit by a second vehicle.
Heimerman said the neighborhood was dark. Spires was wearing a dark-colored coat, and the driver of the first car never saw him. He said there is no indication that high speeds were an issue.
The driver of the first car, a 69-year-old woman, and the second driver, a 28-year-old woman, were not hurt.
