Open car doors too much of a temptation for a Maize teenager
An 18-year-old man was arrested in Maize after breaking into several cars.
"It's amazing to me how many people park their cars outside and don't lock the doors," said Maize Police Officer Brandon Stitt.
Stitt said the Maize resident was arrested early today after he had gotten into a truck in the parking lot of the Fieldstone Apartments at 5050 N. Maize Road. "He had just taken a radar detector out of another vehicle," said Stitt.
Stitt said the man had gotten into four vehicles. All four were unlocked.
"He had nothing to break a car window so he just searched for open car doors," Stitt said. "In one of the cars, a loaded Glock handgun was found."
Stitt believes the car burglar had just loaded a magazine into the weapon, and left it in a pickup when he was interrupted by officers. They chased him down on foot.
Stitt said he spoke with Wichita Police who said the 18 year old was connected to six car break-ins in northwest Wichita.
