Heavy turnout at the polling places and a software problem combined to delay the reporting of results for the general election in Sedgwick County.

The election office was working to count advance votes and military votes. Some ballots were being hand counted. There was also a software problem that kept the election office from posting results on its website. That delayed the reporting of results for media outlets in the Wichita area and created a long wait for election watch parties.

The final results in Sedgwick County were not available until after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. They can be viewed here.

Polling places across Sedgwick County reported large numbers of voters and long lines.

Voters are energized by a contentious presidential campaign and in Wichita, the issue of fluoridation of the city's water supply.

A ballot question asks voters to decide whether to allow for a change in the state's constitution that would affect the way property taxes are assessed on boats. Citizens are also choosing candidates for judge and state legislative races.

Polls close at 7 p.m.
