Reno Co. jury deliberates murder case
Lawyers gave their closing arguments Wednesday afternoon in the murder trial of Charles Logsdon, one of two men accused in the death of Jennifer Heckel, a stay-at-home mother in Hutchinson.
Prosecutors in the Reno County courtroom said Logsdon mistakenly believed Heckel was a drug dealer who owed money. Testimony during the trial suggested Logsdon shot Heckel in the face at her home while her 5-year-old son was watching television in another room. The boy testified in the trial.
Logsdon says he is innocent. His defense attorney called no witnesses.
Logsdon's co-defendant, Billy Joe Craig, Jr., is scheduled to got on trial in January. Craig was expected to testify in Logsdon's trial, but he refused to take the stand.
The jury received the case at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and deliberated until about 5 p.m., with the plan of resuming Thursday morning.
