Hinshaw to step down early as Sedgwick County Sheriff
Sedgwick County Sheriff Bob Hinshaw says he will step down before the end of the year because of an incentive in his retirement program.
Wichita Police Capt. Jeff Easter defeated Hinshaw in the Republican primary before easily winning the general election on Tuesday. Easter and Hinshaw have spoken since then, and Hinshaw says they will meet before he steps down.
Hinshaw has worked for the county for more than 33 years. He began at the age of 20 as an emergency dispatcher, then as a reserve deputy.
Easter will be sworn in this January. He has not said when he will leave his job with the Wichita Police Department.
