Wichita Heights football coach Rick Wheeler resigns
Wichita Heights head football coach Rick Wheeler has resigned.
City League Athletic Director Jay Means said Wheeler announced his decision on Twitter after talking with his team Friday morning.
Wheeler is credited with turning around a long struggling program. The Falcons appeared in three state title games and one championship under Wheeler's 14 years, with the last eight as head coach. He was hired in 2004.
Wheeler leaves with a record of 69-20. He will remain the Heights' athletic director. A search for a replacement will most likely begin after the holiday weekend.
