Police seek witnesses to fatal crash
The Wichita Police Department's accident follow-up team is asking for witnesses to a fatal crash to come forward to help them complete their investigation.
The accident shortly after 8 a.m. at Kellogg and Zelta killed Mario Enrique Zamara-Portillo, 3, and left his 10-year-old sister critically injured. A 31-year-old Wichita woman, with five of her children in her Ford Windstar, turned left in front of an oncoming red Dodge Grand Caravan.
"In particular, we're looking for a white pickup truck that was traveling westbound on Kellogg behind the red Dodge," said Lt. Joe Schroeder.
Schroeder said the driver of the pickup is not in any kind of trouble. They believe anyone in that vehicle would be the best witness to the accident.
Schroeder said at least two of the children were buckled up in the woman's vehicle, but three of the kids were ejected in the crash, including the fatality victim and the 10-year-old, who has a severe head wound.
The other occupants of the Ford were treated and released from a hospital. The Augusta man who was driving the Dodge refused treatment from paramedics.
