Fire destroys vacant home
A vacant home is expected to be a total loss following a fire Saturday at 16th Street and North Green. The Wichita Fire Department found heavy flames coming from the back of the home when they arrived shortly after 8:30 p.m.
Battalion Chief Kevin Royse said firefighters had to wait for Westar Energy to arrive on scene to deal with a downed power line that was arcing before they could make a good attack on the fire. High winds also hindered the response.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Royse said the home was vacant.
No one was hurt.
