A car-semi accident left an Augusta woman in critical condition in a Wichita hospital.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said just before midnight Tuesday 70-year-old Wilma Journell fell asleep at the wheel, drifted left and struck the rear axle of an on-coming semi.

The crash happened on US-Highway-166 east of Cedarvale in Chautauqua County. Journell was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for treatment of her injuries. She had her seatbelt on.

The driver of the semi was not hurt.
