Fire damages Andover church
An Andover church was damaged by fire Wednesday morning, and students at a preschool in the church were evacuated, but no one was hurt.
The fire broke out around 10:30 a.m. at the Hope Community Church in the 1800 block of East 21st. Andover fire chief Jim Shaver said there were flames running along the ceiling, above the ceiling tiles, and it took time for crews to get to the fire and put it out.
The damage was estimated at $50,000. The cause was under investigation, but Shaver said it could be related to construction work that was being done on a new addition to the church building.
