Sedgwick County commissioners will meet Thursday and Friday afternoons to begin the process of certifying the results of the Nov. 6 general election. They will begin the vote canvass Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m., and it will continue Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the historic county courthouse.

The county election office has around 6,400 provisional ballots that will have to be examined, and commissioners will determine how many of them can be counted.

The provisional ballots could affect the outcome of two close legislative races, although historically they tend to follow the same results as the general election.

In the Senate District 25 race, Republican Michael O'Donnell had a 320 vote lead over Democrat Timothy Snow. In the House district 98 contest, Republican Phil Hermanson led Democrat Geraldine Flaharty by 138 votes.
