A 51-year-old man was being robbed near downtown Wichita late Wednesday night, but then he was recognized by one of the robbers.

Wichita Police Lt. Joe Schroeder said the man told police he was walking home from work when he was approached by two men, one of them armed with a handgun. They demanded the man's wallet and cell phone.

The victim handed over his wallet, and one man began going through his pockets. The second man then recognized the victim as someone he had served time in prison with. Schroeder said the robbers apologized and returned the wallet to the victim, then walked off.

The first man was described as African American, around 19 years old, around 5-feet-7-inches and 155 pounds. He was wearing a dark gray T-shirt and blue jeans. The second man was also African American, around 5-feet-7-inches, 155 pounds and around 22 years old. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The victim told police he didn't think he could identify the robbers.
