Derby man hospitalized after a pickup rolled onto him
A 33 year-old Derby is in fair condition following a one-vehicle crash Sunday night at 79th Street South and Hillside.
Sgt. Jeff Ohmart said the driver of a pickup was northbound on Hillside and failed to negotiate the curve where Hillside turns into 79th street South. The pickup struck some traffic signs and left the road for a time before getting back up onto the pavement where the truck rolled.
The man was ejected and the cab of the pickup truck came down on top of him. Firefighters had to extract the man from underneath the vehicle.
Brandon Sutton is hospitalized at Wesley Medical Center.
Sgt. Ohmart said there were no witnesses to the accident, but a passerby who called 911 believed it had happened just moments before they drove by. "At this point it does not look like the seatbelts were in use," said Ohmart.
