House fire in southeast Wichita destroys garage
A fire destroyed the garage of a home Wednesday evening, but the rest of the house was mostly spared.
The cause of the house fire in the 6800 block of E. Hurst has not been determined.
"When our crews showed up, they had a garage fully engulfed in flames. We were able to knock it down, go inside and start pulling some ceiling," said Wichita Fire Department Battalion Chief Tom Carney. "We found a little bit of fire in the attic. We were able to get that under control."
Four adults and two children were home at the time the fire started. No one was hurt.
Carney estimated there was $80,000 in damage, but it was mostly isolated to the garage.
"We did have a little bit of charring up in the attic, but our crews got that opened up and knocked down really quick," Carney said. "They did a great job."
