Building code approved for Sedgwick County
Sedgwick County commissioners have approved a unified code for building and construction for the county and the city of Wichita. It's another step in the process of combining the city and county code enforcement and inspection operations.
The city and county have created the Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department, and former Wichita deputy police chief Tom Stolz has been chosen as the director. Stolz said 2013 will be an active year as work continues to complete the consolidation of city and county functions.
Commissioners have approved a unified code that will have minimum standards for buildings. It involves plumbing, electrical and fuel codes. Assistant county counselor Bill Raymond said there will be no changes in fees for permits and licenses, and the codes will generally remain the same.
Raymond said the city and county will have a one-stop location for the trades and the builders as they work on home and construction projects.
