Thunder increase winning streak to three
Wichita built a three-goal lead and was able to stave off a late rally by the Quad City Mallards on Friday night, winning 4-3 at INTRUST Bank Arena. RG Flath and Ryan Flanigan each recorded a goal and an assist to help the Thunder win their third in a row.
The Thunder power play had one chance in the first period and made the most of their opportunity. Kevin Young caught a pass from Chad Painchaud in the deep slot and fired a shot towards the net that was tipped out of the air by Ian Lowe and through John Murray to make it 1-0 at 17:53.
In the second period, Ryan Flanigan and Les Reaney scored four minutes apart to extend the Thunder lead to 3-0. Mickey Lang was able to get Quad City on the board at 16:32 with a shorthanded goal, which was the first one given up by Wichita this season to make it 3-1.
Quad City outscored the Thunder in the third period, as Michael Stinziani added a pair to get the Mallards back into the game.
Wichita went 1-for-5 on the power play and shut down the Mallards, who went 0-for-3. Wichita has not allowed a power play goal in five games, killing off all 17 chances for the opposition.
Wichita will close out their home schedule in the month of November on Saturday night as the Fort Worth Brahmas come to town for the first time this season.
