Wichita police are investigating the death of a 73-year-old man as a homicide. The body of Robert Newman was found Sunday afternoon by his brother.

Lieutenant Todd Ojile said Newman lived alone at the home, and his brother found the front door open at 3501 West 9th. Ojile said the brother regularly went to the home on Sundays. Newman was found in the home with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Ojile said the home was cluttered with a number of items, and it's hard to determine if anything is missing. He said Newman was a tinkerer and kept a lot of objects in his home. Newman was last seen Saturday. Anyone who saw him over the weekend or saw any suspicious activity around the home is urged to call the police homicide division at 268-4181.

This is Wichita's 19th homicide of the year.
