Police use tear gas to break up crowd in Old Town
Wichita police had to use tear gas to break up a crowd in the Old Town district during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Lieutenant Doug Nolte said it happened around closing time Friday morning in the 200 block of N. Mosley. The situation involved a disturbance and a crowd that refused to leave the area.
Nolte said a small cannister of tear gas was used, and that was successful in breaking up the crowd. He said one person complained of ill effects from the tear gas, and that person was checked by EMS paramedics.
The city recently imposed stronger regulations on the Old Town district. Police have stepped up patrols and enforcement activities in response to recent disturbances and shooting incidents.
