Wichita school board looks over Education EDGE policy
The Wichita Public Schools Board of Education is reviewing its policies on Education EDGE to make it streamlined for the future.
Education EDGE is a donor funded project that brings in money to improve athletic, fine arts and classroom programs. It has brought it more than $1.8 million in funding through Sept. 30, including more than $634,000 donated by USD 259 employees through payroll deductions.
"It can do a lot of things, and it has helped our schools in many, many ways," said BOE President Lynn Rogers.
Most of the revisions would just tinker with the wording of the policies. One change would drop the Advisory Committee from seven members to five. Superintendent John Allison said the group has struggled to get a quorum with seven, allowing it to vote. Two non-voting students would also attend meetings to provide perspective on the use of the funding.
Allison said revisiting the policy allows the district to discuss future processes and goals for the project.
"This policy represents an opportunity to do that," he said.
