Northeast Wichita family homeless after fire
A mother and four children are homeless after a house fire in the 2600 block of North Spruce.
Wichita Fire Investigations Captain Stuart Bevis said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The home is a total loss. The children's mother was working at the time of the fire.
Extra fire crews were brought in to help fight the fire when it was reported three children may have been inside. Damage was estimated at $80,000 to the home and its contents.
Bevis said he has ruled out a natural gas explosion, due to a couple of home oxygen tanks in the home, including one that exploded. The Red Cross was called to the home to assist the family with shelter, food and clothes.
