Local all-star football teams compete for regional championship
The road to the Alamodome began this weekend for 64 teams involved with the U.S. Army Football University National Championship series.
The top seventh and eighth graders from the Wichita area will compete in Region 3 with teams from Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana. Team Wichita is coached by Manny Martinez, who will play in Haysville Saturday against Kansas City, Mo., and winner/loser of the Kansas City, Kansas/Oklahoma City game Sunday in Haysville.
Team Wichita is composed of players from the City of Wichita Youth Football League. One player to watch is Jahyln Rounds of the Wichita Tigers. He attends Stucky MIddle School, where he carries a 4.0 GPA.
The FBU National Championship game will be played Jan. 6 in the Alamodome in San Antonio.
