Guilty plea follows dog-related homicide in 2011
A man accused of beating another man to death has pleaded guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter. Samuel Sims had been charged with second degree murder. His trial was to start today in Sedgwick County District Court.
The 41-year-old Wichita man also pleaded guilty to robbery and aggravated burglary.
On July 17, 2011, Sims and another man burglarized a home and stole a dog. A few hours later the men returned and beat John Tollivar to death.
Wichita police said the dispute that led to Tolliver's murder began with a fight between Tolliver and an ex-girlfriend over who owned the dog.
The second suspect, Nelson Glover, goes on trial next week.
