City council declares vacancy in 4th District with O'Donnell resignation
The Wichita city council has declared a vacancy in the 4th District council seat, with the resignation of council member Michael O'Donnell.
O'Donnell was elected in November as the new state senator for District 25 in Wichita, and he will step down from the city council on December 31st.
The council agreed Tuesday to set December 18th at noon as the deadline for petitions from interested candidates who would serve on a temporary basis as the 4th District council member. The 4th district advisory board will then have a meeting within 7 days, and it is to recommend 4 or 5 candidates to the city council. The council will have interviews with the candidates on January 7th, and they will appoint a 4th district council member at their regular meeting the next day, January 8th. The new council member will be sworn in on January 15th, and that person will serve until the spring elections, when voters will decide who will fill the remaining 2 years of O'Donnell's term.
