Two charged with using medical records to steal identity, file tax returns

Two Wichitans face federal charges for using medical records to steal people's identity and recieve federal income tax refunds.

An indictment filed in federal court alleges that 39-year-old Anthony Hopkins and 23-year-old Ashley Allen obtained medical records from the Wichita Clinic and without concent, used the victim's information to submit federal tax returns.

The indictment also alleges that they sent the refunds to pre-paid debit cards that they used to pay bills, get cash and make purchases.

Both face significant jail time and hefty fines if convicted.
