Wichita Thunder to honor Pearl Harbor vets
The Wichita Thunder is recognizing two area men who survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
Paul Aschbrenner and Authur Dunn are both in their 90s. They will be honored during a ceremony at Friday night's game against the Tulsa Oilers at Intrust Bank Arena.
"They were on the same boat, on the USS Oklahoma, when it got hit by nine torpedoes," said Thunder spokesman Jason Mals. "They didn't actually get to know each other until about five years ago."
Mals described the men as humble and honored. They both served through the war in multiple battles in the Pacific Theater.
