Cause of west Wichita fire not known
Fire investigators are searching for a cause of a house fire Friday evening in the 10400 block of west Bartlett Court.
Wichita Fire Battallion Chief Andy Cole says when the units arrived on the scene, they noticed heavy fire and smoke coming from an attached garage.
"We do have some fire and smoke damage in the kitchen area, but they (firefighters) were able to save over half of the house," Cole said.
Neighbors told firefighters they heard explosions coming from the area of the garage. Cole said that may have come from vehicles and containers that were in the garage at the time of the fire.
The homeowner was not at home when the fire happened. Damage is estimated at $250,000 dollars. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and no injuries were reported.
