Ambassador Hotel opens December 26
After almost a year of construction, Wichita's new downtown hotel will open the day after Christmas.
Officials with the Ambassador Hotel announced that the hotel will open Dec. 26 with all 117 rooms and suites, conference facilities and the Siena Tuscan Steakhouse restaurant.
The hotel was constructed in the historic Union National Bank building at Douglas and Broadway, with the help of incentives from the city of Wichita. The hotel was the focus of a special election in February on a 75 percent rebate of hotel guest taxes that would go to the developers. Wichita voters turned down the rebate with 61 percent voting no.
In a press release, President and CEO Susie Santo of the Go Wichita Convention and Visitors Bureau said the Ambassador will give Wichita a boutique luxury property that will be important in attracting meetings and conventions to Wichita.
