A west Wichita family immediately called 911 when they smelled smoke inside their home at 307 North St. Paul.

That quick action probably saved the home from being more severely damaged by an attic fire, said Wichita Fire Battalion Chief John Turner.

Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the attic and damage is estimated at $10,000. No one was hurt. Crews covered furniture and other items with tarps to minimize damage.

The fire was reported at 7:12 p.m. Tuesday.
