WSU basketball player Carl Hall undergoes thumb surgery Tuesday
Wichita State University head men's basketball Coach Gregg Marshall announced forward Carl Hall will have surgery on his right thumb Tuesday, and will be out a month.
Hall, a starter who leads the team with a 13.9 points per game and 7.6 rebounds, broke the thumb in practice during the weekend.
"You never want this to happen to any of your student-athletes, especially someone like Carl who has put in a great amount of time and effort to improve, and is playing at a very high level right now," Marshall said. "And with the other two starters, Evan Wessel (hand) and Ehimen Orukpe (ankle), injured as well, it just compounds the problem.
"However, these injuries do create opportunities for their teammates, who have also been putting in the work, but we do anxiously await for the injured to heal and return to the court."
Wichita State hosts Charleston Southern at 7 p.m. Thursday at Koch Arena. The Shockers have won four out of their last five games. A recent loss to Tennessee dropped WSU out of the top 25 men's college basketball poll.
